Hazen's Farm has been a family business for over 50 years.
In the 1950's and 60's Arthur and Edna Hazen purchased 25 acres of land in Commerce Township and 80 acres in Howell, Michigan. After clearing the land during evenings, weekends, and holidays, Art and his son, Dennis planted over 25 acres of blueberry bushes and launched the future of Hazen's Farms.
Dennis continued to help his dad in the fields. While he was growing up, Dennis and the rest of the family, would pick, clean, and package the berries for sale to large markets and local stores. As time passed the farms consolidated in Howell and became strictly U-pick offering an exceptional variety of blueberries. Throughout the years Hazen's Farm has remained a family owned business with Dennis's nephew, Tony as the current owner.
Opening day of blueberry season has become a working family tradition as everybody pitches in. At Hazen's Farm we offer only the highest quality of blueberries - varieties include: Bluecrop - considered the best all around variety for adaptability, consistent yields, high quality fruit and disease resistance. Bluecrop is perhaps the most widely planted variety in the U.S. Blueray - an old favorite and versatile variety, Blueray performs particularly well in areas with hot summers or very cold winters, and produces high quality berries with outstanding dessert flavor. Jersey - one of the oldest and most widely grown of all varieties, Jersey is a favorite for farmers wanting a bush that produces heavy late season crops year after year. This bush tolerates a wide range of soil types, and the small to medium sized, sweet tasting fruit is a favorite for baking.
For three generations, the Hazen family secret has been hard work, innovation, and a total commitment to our community and our customers. The family and employees of Hazen's Farm value your patronage and we look forward to seeing you at the farm.
